2 Peter 2:5  “And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”

the preacher

In verse 5 of 2 Peter chapter 2, it says that Noah is a preacher of righteousness. Where we can find that Noah preached?

A vast majority of people are thinking that if Noah is a preacher of righteousness, why was it not recorded in the bible that he preached? We cannot fathom the thought of our God unless he reveals it to us.

We need to go back to the attitude of God and search the bible for the events in history that happened. There is a clear record of what the days of Noah were like in Matthew Chapter 24 verses 37 to 39 it says,

But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

If we put that in today’s perspective, if you are building an ark that is really enormous in size, many people will definitely be curious and ask what you are building.

With this, we propose to the reader to consider the thought that God has put in our heart. Please do not get us wrong: we are not adding to what the Word of God says, but ask of you to think of how the Word of God applies today, as well as in the time when Noah and his sons were building the ark.

Our God is merciful and just! He always give us the opportunity to consider our ways before he passes His judgement. His mercies endure forever, but it does not mean that He will not pass His judgement to us when we disobey His Word.

It was recorded that Noah was a preacher of righteousness, and it is possible that during those building years Noah preached to those people and in the end some of them truly repented but died in the flood because the door was already shut by God.

Considering the similarity between people in the days of Noah and now, people will surely raise many questions. Others may mock Noah’s family for their reason of building the ark, as it was evident that there was no rain or storm that is coming in that time. We know that they built the ark for a hundred years.

TO WHOM DID our Lord Jesus Christ PREACH?

In the New Testament, it was also recorded in 1 Peter 3:19-20 that Jesus preached unto the spirits in prison:

By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” – 1 Peter 3:19-20 KJV and if we continue in verse 21-22 that says “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.”

Notice the phrase “sometime were disobedient”: it implies that sometimes they were obedient. This could mean that in the end when they were caught up in the flood before they died, some of them truly repented of their sins and believed what Noah had preached to them about the judgement of our Almighty God.

Like them, we were sometime disobedient before we knew the truth; when we obey and apply the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in baptism as written in verse 21, it fits perfectly to do and apply His Word in our lives.

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (that this not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God.)”

He is a faithful and just God, as what we’ve read in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

All Glory belongs to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: Our One True and Living God.
